Hello my super saavy sixth graders!
Welcome to your first post of the year! I always start the blog at this point in time to offer extra support for you and extra information for your parents! (Hi parents! Your portion of this blog will come in a bit... stay tuned!) Here I will be post any extra credit opportunities, homework reminders, fun stuff, and project information. It will be most advantageous if you checked this blog daily.
Happy learning!
Parents!
This blog will be helpful for you too! There are a lot of projects in ELA class that have group work. I will be posting the assignments on here. I will also be posting our latest standings in the district when it comes to IA data. So let's begin with that:
IA 2 proved to be most difficult for 6th graders across the district. We are on the same trajectory as last year, coming in 6th place out of 12 schools. While this is great, my goal is always to be #1 and your children share this goal and passion. We are rolling out a new tracking system called our "Hot Tamale Tracker," I encourage you to ask your children about the process to check their understanding and to learn more about it yourselves!
Second, we have our research project deadline fast approaching. Your son/daughter was paired up with someone in class and they have to research an object that has changed over time. I have given them a progress chart that you should be signing as assignments are completed.
Today, we have a couple of things due:
-Rough draft
-Works Cited page
- Peer Review
If students are not able to complete in class, they have the opportunity to take this home and finish for homework. I encourage your children to meet with their partners outside of school and make this project the best possible. They will need 3 sources of information: 2 websites and 1 book source.
Tomorrow, they will begin writing out their oral presentation on note cards and creating their displays. They will need to bring supplies in for their displays like posters, markers, glue, pictures, scissors, etc.
Your son or daughter will have vocabulary quiz tomorrow. These are the following words:
-misanthrope
-misnomer
-abundant
-lighthearted
-moody
-passionate
-apologetic
-arguementative
-clever
Please make sure your child studies.
Thank you so much for your cooperation and I look forward to seeing you TONIGHT for REPORT CARD PICK UP NIGHT!
See ya later alligator,
Ms. G
